FOOD HANDLERS

A “Food handler” is anyone who is directly involved in the preparation of food or whose daily work involves coming into contact with food in a food premise or institution (e.g. daycare workers who also assist in feeding infants and children). This may or may not include workers who handle pre-packaged food or food contact materials such as food packagings and food wraps.

Food handlers must practise good personal hygiene at all times and have the appropriate knowledge to ensure the food they handle are safe for consumption.  As part of ensuring food safety in Brunei Darussalam, the BDFA requires all food handlers to undergo Basic Food Safety training and obtain a Food Handlers Certificate. This training teaches basic general hygiene and good food handling practices.

Basic Food Safety Course for Food Handlers

BDFA currently offers a food safety course for food handlers.

After attending the course, food handlers should be able to:

  •         Gain understanding of how to practice good personal hygiene
  •         Understand how to handle food properly
  •         Understand how to store food properly
  •         Maintain a clean working environment

All participants of the course are required to sit for a Multiple-Choice Assessment after the training. Only participants who pass will be awarded with the Food Handlers Certificate. Those who are not successful must re-do the training and assessment.

The course will be conducted in Bahasa Melayu. However, English translation will be available on the presentation slides and on the multiple-choice assessment paper.  BDFA Officers conducting the course are always ready to assist participants who have difficulties in understanding. It is advisable that participants notify their needs for assistance during registration.
