Brunei Darussalam Food Authority would like to inform the general public that the United States Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) has notified regards the recall of the Jif brand of Peanut Butter, due to potential Salmonella contamination.
Salmonella is a type of bacteria that can cause food poisoning if it is found in foods such as meat, poultry, eggs, fruits, vegetables, and processed foods if the hygiene aspect is ignored or the food is not properly processed.
The recalled Jif Peanut Butter products includes the products with lot codes 1274425 – 2140425 that involves the last three digits 425.
BDFA has contacted the importer of Jif Peanut Butter brand in Brunei Darussalam and has confirmed that the affected brand is not imported into the country.
BDFA would like to remind all that under Section 9 of subsection (1) subparagraph (i) of the Public Health (Food) Act (Chapter 182) any person who prepares, sells or imports a food item that can harm health can be imprisoned for five years, fined or both.
