The Brunei Darussalam Food Authority (BDFA) wishes to inform the public that the International Food Safety Authorities Network (INFOSAN) has issued a notification regarding the recall of ByHeart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula linked to a multistate outbreak of infant botulism in the United States of America.
Infant botulism often starts with constipation but is usually first noticed as difficulty feeding (sucking and swallowing), a weak and altered cry, and a lack of head control. The recalled ByHeart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula products include all lot numbers, all sizes of cans and single-serve packets. This product is also distributed online through major retailers such as Amazon.com, which has notified all customers who purchased ByHeart items via its platform.
In this regard, BDFA has confirmed that the affected brand is not imported commercially into the country. However, members of the public who have brought the product into the country as personal concession or purchased the product through online platform are urged to stop using the product immediately.
BDFA would like to remind all that under Section 9 of subsection (1), subparagraph (i) of the Public Health (Food) Act (Chapter 182), any person who prepares, sells, or imports a food item that can harm health can be imprisoned for five years, fined, or both.
